Guangzhou 广州 Mingzhu 明珠 (Pearl)

Model : Mingzhu 明珠
Manufacturer : Guangzou Watch Factory (广州手表厂)
Year of Production: 1970s
Case Diameter : 35mm

Weight w/o strap: 39g
Movement Model : M (17 jewels)
Type : Hand Wind
Anti-shock (Fang Zhen) : Yes

This is Ming Zhu 明珠 ; it means bright pearl literally. There is a pearl like gem above six o'clock marker (below "fangzhen") which symbolizes pearl. I saw Mingzhu with the gem in red, green and gold color before.  This one is almost colorless owing to the age of this watch, it might be in gold color when it was new.I particularly like the dial with this texture radiating from the centre of the dial. It is really beautiful for close-up shot.

Ming Zhu watch is a product of Guang Zhou Watch Factory 广州手表厂 but this watch no longer in production. For more information about Guang Zhou Watch Factor, you can click here. Guangzhou in English is also known as Canton. It is the third largest city in China and the capital of Guangdong Province. Does "Cantonese" sound familiar to you ? Yes, the spoken language of Hong Kong and also of Guangzhou. Hong Kong is not far from Guangzhou. See wiki for Guangzhou at this link here.

This watch is powered by 17 jewels standard movement with "M" sign on it. Unlike most of the movement of other manufacturers, the movement does not have any date code under the balance. Centre of the caseback is the "M" surrounded by the words Ming Zhu 明珠 , Zhong Guo 中国(China) and Guang Zhou.
