Meigui 玫瑰 (Rose) is my first watch from Qingdao 青岛. Qingdao is a major city in Shandong Province. I know Qingdao because of its Tsingtao Brewery, founded by a German-British joint venture in 1903 that produces Tsingtao beer, the most well-known Chinese export beer. But little known to the foreigners is the Qingdao Watch Factory which produces one of the popular watch brands in China i.e. Jinmao (Golden Anchor); this Meigui is also one of its product lines.
There is a section dedicated to Qingdao Watch Factory in the Chinese Watch Industry Wiki here with detail information.From its humble beginnings as a watch repairers cooperative in 1956 to now a full fletch enterprise known as Qingdao Zinxin Industrial Co. Ltd.
This is a 19 jewels standard movement. There is a production code under the balance wheel which is "M 07B"; probably means M (Meiguei) 07 (the seventh year of production) B (date version).
The caseback is exceptionally charming. You can see a beautiful rose at the centre surrounded with words "QINGDAO MEIGUEI" and “玫瑰” but there is an error in the pinyin of "Meigui"
